San Jose’s “Sister City” Dublin Ireland brings the Mayor to town for a bike ride…

The Mayor of Dublin Ireland, Andrew Montague, will be in town March 11th 2012 for a 7 mile bicycle ride through parts of San Jose. Meets at City hall at 9:30am and leaves at 10am to ride through Japantown, east side and part of downtwon. Mayor Montague is an avid cyclist and bicycle advocate in Ireland. Come out and say “top’o the mornin to ya” with a bike ride and an Irish mayor…

The Mayor of Dublin is seen here using one of 450 “Dublin Bikes” available throughout the city of Dublin. The city has a sign up program and swipe card to use so you can access the bike free for the first 30 minutes, after that is a small charge to your account to continue using the bike. The bikes are maintained by a separate company in Dublin and available at over 40 rental stations. One of a few bicycle advocacy projects headed up by the Mayor Montague in Dublin. Could we ever see anything like this in San Jose? If we did maybe it would get that pointless version of a bike trail in downtown San Jose actually connecting and going somewhere!! (as I throw a dart at a picture of Chuck Reed)
