SJ Bike Party “Sharks Ride” Re-Cap

Well…Sharks got ousted in the first round of the playoffs this season, but it did’nt keep a few die-hard Sharks fans from Revealing their Teal at the SJ Bike Party “Sharks Ride”! See you next season…GO SHARKS!!

SJ Bike Party: 3-16-2012 “Irish Ride’n” in the Rain…

I really wish I was testing out some all weather riding gear last night at bike party, but I wasnt. It would have been perfect to see how well it could keep the buckets of rain and mild wind out of my dry clothes underneath. With the weather being so unpredictable at times, a good pair of rain pants and booties could come in handy if your trying to get in more year round cycling. If your dry and warm you can always ride your bike in practically any weather.

Wearing my trusty gore-tex jacket that has elastic sleeves, drawstring bottom and covered zipper pockets helped make the ride tolerable. I was dry with the hood up covering a beanie and a winter face mask. The rest of me: drenched with water not long after starting the ride. Plastic bags taped over my shoes and ankles were filled with water within 20 minutes. Large plastic bags, taped like a hockey players socks, got twisted up in my cranks after 15 minutes. Weather proof motorcycle style gloves kept my hands warm (thanks to thinsulate) but they were so full of water I had to keep ringing them out like washclothes. My portable lithium-ion powered radio, that I had covered with what looked like industrial shower caps, stayed dry and rockin live 105 all night(that thing works good!). Until I hit the biggest blacktop bulge ,or what Ill refer to as practically a curb, in the middle of the Great America overpass at 101. My radio launched out of my front basket at least 5 feet in the air and onto the road, even with a missing knob and kinked antenna it still worked fine.

It rained for more than half the night and puddles of every size were all around, but we kept riding. Once you get going your body quickly warms up, not to mention the air was crisp and clean for your lungs from all that rain. Through the ride I ditched my super soaked gloves and my hands didnt get cold. As long as you keep riding you won’t get cold, see you out there rain or shine. -Jonsey

Sj Bike Party: “Mardi Gras Ride” Feb 2012

Great Night! Good not to see any rain or super cold breezes! There had to of been at least 1500 to a 2000 people out on this nice South San Jose bike ride. We should ride these areas more often!

T.C.T. Night Rides…dt SJ to dt LG 1-3-2012

The Tall Can or the Forty ounce. Which one rules the corner store? Currently, I believe, the Tall Can has taken the place of the 40 oz. The Tall Can comes in a highly recyclable aluminum form which seems to be the choice for collected beverage receptacles. The 40 oz and its large glass container is much more likely to get broken and make alot of noise on a bike ride, not to mention that when broken it could cause you or other cyclists a nasty flat tire. The Tall Can is easily crushed and saved or just left on top of a trash can for anyone to collect for recycling. The 40 oz bottle is alot heavier and much more bulky than the Tall Can, posing problems after the contents have been “guzzled” or “slammed”. The Tall Can could be “shotgunned” for quick consumption and personal disposal of its liquid content for instant refreshment. So, the only question now posed is: which came first? the 40 or the Tall Can? photos Jones-

December 2011: San Jose Bike Party “Pajama Ride”!

Brrrrrrrrr! That was the coldest ride I think Ive done! But I’m glad I did it, that’s a good route: zig zagging up the foothills and cutting across the mountain is always a fun and easy ride. Maybe ride longer and take it towards Milpitas? Did anyone see the giant rotating star lights on one of the homes? It would have been cool to start the ride near Christmas in the park to set the Holiday mood, or end it there. Sooooooo….the psycho guy in the mini van that was swerving at cyclists and looked like Hulk Hogan was totally messed up, he came about 2 feet from hitting me and a friend, I hope someone got his plate number! -Jones

San Jose Bike Party ride October 2011…

Wow! 4100 bicyclists! Four start points and one gigantic first regroup! With two more regroups after that down on the south side and then back up to city hall. I think that this should be the way every SJ Bike Party begins with a few different starting points. Cyclists from all over the city coming together into one big first regroup. It makes the rides alot of fun and gives them the smaller feel they had when Bike Party first started just a few years ago.
